A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM JON

January 2004

Dear Friends,

Welcome to my website -- a long, long way from the Martin farm. I hope this makes it easier for people to find me. It means a lot to me to hear from you after all these years. I receive mail from around the world asking so many questions about my work on "Lassie": How many dogs did I work with? (not including doubles, I worked with 3 Lassies.) Did I enjoy it? (yes!!) Am I still close to June Lockhart? (absolutely.) And yes, I have a dog, but it is not a collie. I hope you will find all the answers you are looking for right here. I'll be adding photos and memories all the time. If you don't find what you want, leave your suggestion or question for me in the Guestbook. I promise I'll answer you!

I have much to celebrate in this new century. In January, my son, Ryan turned 16 and my daughter Katie, 14. They are beautiful kids and I'm a very proud dad. I can't believe how fast they grow.

In February, I look forward to participating in a documentary called "Hollywood: Through the Eyes of its Children". Melissa Gilbert and Tony Dow are producing it for A&E. We've all heard enough negative press about former child stars. This show concentrates on the positive and the actors they're interviewing are wonderful: Jackie Cooper, Mickey Rooney, Hayley Mills, Ron Howard, Patty Duke, Drew Barrymore, Bill Mumy and many more. I am excited and honored to be part of it. As soon as I have an air date, I'll post it under Personal Appearances.

OK, are you sitting down? March 12th, I'll be the big 5-0. I am really having a hard time believing it. I think I'm just going to ignore it and save the celebration for the 28th -- Laurie's and my first wedding anniversary. You can read about how we met and see wedding pictures in Recollections.

I have been working on my autobiography, with Laurie's help, for quite awhile: TIMMY'S IN THE WELL -- The Jon Provost Story. We've been tracking down all kinds of people from my past. It's been an amazing experience...with many more people yet to go. I'll keep you updated about it and will, in the future, print excerpts from it here.

I make personal appearances throughout the year at autograph shows, trade shows, kennel clubs and various fund-raisers. If you sign the Guest Book I will contact you when I'm going to be in your area.

I do have a cause of my own I feel very strongly about. Many people ask if I am still involved with dogs. Of course I am. For the past 12 years, I have been on the Northwest Regional Board of Directors of Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit organization which provides highly trained dogs to all types of disabled people (other than the blind). There are chapters all over the country. If you'd like to learn more about their wonderful work, please visit their site at: www.caninecompanions.org

That's all for now. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you'll visit often.

Best wishes,

Jon Provost
